2018 Anita and Hans Nittnaus Red Blendthe most drinkable Red you've never heard of!45% Zweigelt , 20% Blaufränkisch, 20% Roesler, 10% St. Laurent, 5% MerlotThis red blend would pair beautifully with any savory dinner especially with lamb, chicken or duck. Non-meat eaters may enjoy a spread of roasted vegetables and goat cheese or a pasta with any tomato-based sauce.“The wines represent their unique Pannonian style, characterized by elegance, complexity, and longevity.”
Anita and Hans Nittnaus reign from Burgenland, Austria where their family has been producing wine since 1927. Located just east of Gols, these vineyards are farmed biodynamically with many low intervention and natural approaches. Grapes are always harvested by hand and only spontaneous or hand selected wild yeasts are used during fermentation. For this particular wine, fermentation occurred in stainless steel and used oak barrels. The soil composition near Lake Neusiedl, where these vineyards were first established, has both clay/loam and slate/limestone with some areas of gravel and sand. This combined with very little processing in the winery results in complex and rustic expressions of native Austrian varietals.
“Anita and Hans Nittnaus’ philosophy is complete devotion to making wines reflecting the origin and terroir of the area.”This incredibly juicy and spicy 2018 vintage includes five varietals including Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch, Roesler, St. Laurent and Merlot. On the nose you’ll be greeted with blackberry and dried fig and a touch of smoke. Across the palate this wine is bursting with crushed strawberries and finishes with a hint of fresh peppercorns.“In a relatively short period of time, Nittnaus became a leading winery of the Neusiedlersee wine region and one of the best wine producers of Austria.”
