Late last week we received word that our allocation of the 2016 Domaine Tempier Bandol Rouge had arrived at our local distributor. This was great news as we have been out of this wine since last November per the large demand for it - only a small amount of it ever makes it to Georgia. The origins of this wine date back to 1936, when Lucie “Lulu” Tempier married Lucien Peyraud and her father gave them Domaine Tempier, an active farm that had been in the family since 1834, just outside the Mediterranean seaport village of Bandol. No other estate in France serves as much of a cornerstone in the defense of terroiras does that of Domaine Tempier.
Variations of clay and limestone soils between the vineyards produce wines that are undeniably world class, and the wines of Domaine Tempier stand as the proud benchmark when talking about Provençal wines. The 2016 Domaine Tempier Bandol Rougeis a beautiful example of power and finesse that so defines the Provencal wines, composed of 75% Mourvèdre, 14% Grenache, 9% Cinsault, 2% Carignan, with an average vine age of 40 years.
The wine has a Ruby color with great clarity. On the pallet, defined flavors of blackberry and licorice are well balanced with a rich but still elegant weight. This wine is good now but will improve even more with few years of bottle age.
I could go on and on about my love for this wine but the jist of this is that we have a very limited amount allocated to us and once its gone, will not receive any more of it until the Fall of 2019. Please contact us for an order soon to insure that you get a bottle or so!- $52.99.
